I am inspired by illusion. It is the cornerstone of my technical process and a catalyst for my conceptualization. My artwork is an amalgam of objects and images that reflect an imitation of reality. As a whole, they represent a relationship between the domestic and the natural world. Under the surface, they suggest that anything in life can be misunderstood. The physical appearance of the work belies their actual material nature, much as the objects they represent belie their inevitable push toward planned obsolescence and the paradox of convenience.
Formally, my artwork is a variety of ceramic and sculptural processes, rendering techniques, and alternative surface applications. Fabrication of extruded and press molded ceramic elements compliment ceramic monotypes, in which detailed images are rendered on a plaster slab and transferred to a ceramic ground. With a unique ability to translate a simulated surface, the printed imagery and sculptural elements distort the authenticity of the object and image. Often portraying nostalgic appliances and gesturing hands that reference the figure, these works message societal concerns through narrative.
